Barcelona Flamenco

 Flamenco Night at Tablao Cordobes

Flamenco is the passionate style of traditional music, song and dance of the Gypsies (flamencos) of Andalusia. Flamenco takes three forms: Cante, (song), Baile, (dance), and Guitarra, (guitar). Flamenco dance features swirling skirts, rhythmic patterns, sophisticated footwork and magnificent hand gestures, with the singing at the heart of the tradition. Flamenco songs explore themes of love, politics and humour, and the often tragic lyrics reflect the sufferings of the gypsy people.

Flamenco music is classified into “palos”, based on rhythm, chord, stanza and origin. The most serious style is “cante jondo”; more frivolous “cante chico” are light and humorous; while “cante intermedio” is anything else. The Duende (demon) in Flamenco symbolises emotional empathy and deep communication between musicians, dancers and audience. Improvisation key, with each artist individually interpreting the rhythm and communicating the beat to the other players. An informal spontaneous gathering (juerga) includes dancing, singing and palmas (hand clapping). Organic and dynamic, this style of Flamenco adapts to the local talent, instruments, and mood.

"Tablaos flamencos" developed in the sixties, replacing more cabaret style "café cantante". Many tablaos have their own companies of musicians and artists. Feel the passion of the flamenco at Barcelona's legendary Torres Cordobes, where some of the greatest names in flamenco have performed. While being entertained by the fabulous live flamenco show, enjoy a traditional Spanish meal of paella, pastries and fruit with sangria, wine and beer.

Communication between the artists and audience is also an important part of the performance.

Top 5 Places to Grab a Drink in Barcelona

From hilltop Montjuic to the beaches of Barceloneta, you’ll never go thirsty in this Spanish city of tapas and champagne bars. Your favourite bar might be just around the corner from your hotel, or tucked away in a Gothic Quarter laneway. We found our Top 5 watering holes as we made our way around the Catalan capital, but we have the feeling this is just the beginning of a much longer list…

1. El Xampanyet
Seats (or should that be stools) were at a premium when we squeezed our way into El Xampanyet, one of Barcelona’s most legendary champagne bars. It’s in the Gothic Quarter, a few doors down from the Picasso Museum (just look for the queues). Although it’s extremely popular with visitors, the family-run bar still feels authentic, with its tiled walls, tapas counter and walls lined with bottles. In fact it’s been run by the same family since 1921.
The specialty here is the house cava, served in old-style breast-shaped coupes rather than flutes. The staff are helpful (and patient), and you can get by with very little Spanish – just point as you stand and eat and drink at the bar (or grab one of those stools if you see one come free).
To accompany your champagne, a steady stream of tapas dishes appears from the kitchen. Will it be red pepper and ham toasts, fresh asparagus spears, artichoke hearts, sardines, anchovies or croquettes?

2. Barceloneta Beach Bar
No holiday to Barcelona is complete without a stroll beside the long stretch of Barceloneta seaside. One of the world’s longest urban beaches, it’s quite a scene, with sun worshipers, kite boarders, volleyball competitions and wandering beer vendors.
And no Barceloneta seaside stroll is complete without a drink at one of the many waterfront beach bars (‘chiringuitos’) and cafes. There are bars right on the sand, with outdoor tables and umbrellas. Above the beach, tablecloth-covered tables spill onto the promenade, with waiter service if you’d like a meal.
We made ourselves at home at an outdoor restaurant table under the palm trees and ordered a plate of patatas bravas, fried potatoes with a creamy red pepper sauce. And as the sun was shining, a bottle of rosé was the ideal accompaniment as we watched the passing parade.

3. La Ramblas classic
Of course, when in Barcelona you’ve got to have a drink in a Modernista classic, and they don’t come much more classic than El Quatre Gats, just off La Ramblas.
From the terracotta brick and stone of its 1897 facade with its grilled doors and metal sculpture lanterns, to the geometric and floral tiles, wooden beamed ceiling and circular candelabras, it’s no wonder 4 Gats is a major stop on Barcelona’s Modernista trail.
Table seating for a meal is in the main restaurant, and at tables for two along the mezzanine gallery looking down from above. The restaurant fare gets mixed reviews, so we decided to have a drink in the front bar where you can still get a taste of 4 Gats’ atmosphere. We ordered a couple of beers and some cava to wash down small platters of tortilla omelette and chorizo.
4. Cheese Shop and Wine Bar
We were walking through the Gothic Quarter when we came across something very unique: a gorgeous cheese shop run by a fabulously wonderful Scottish woman called Katherine.
In the antique surroundings of a former butter-making factory, Formatgeria la Seu is a great place to sample and buy cheeses to take home. You can order a cheese ‘palette’ of three cheeses and a glass of wine, enjoyed standing up, or visit on Friday and Saturday afternoons to sit down with a cheese platter with olives, quince paste and a bottle of Spanish wine in the tiny tasting room at the rear of the shop.
The handcrafted artisan cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk cheeses are sourced from independent rural producers across Spain. They ranged from creamy to hard, subtle to ripe, and the only one we’d even heard of was the famous manchego. We also tasted the unusual formatgelat, combining cow’s, goat’s or blue cheese with artisan ice cream. Strange but lovely with dried fruit and honey.
Katherine also runs a tiny wine bar, a door or so down the alley. Just a couple of stools in a stone-walled cellar, it oozes conviviality and great ambiance.

5. El Born
El Born is a particularly atmospheric part of Barcelona, just outside the Gothic Quarter and heading towards Barceloneta. The sailor’s cathedral, Santa Maria del Mar, is here, just near the França railway station, and the backstreets are lined with fortress-like tall medieval stone buildings pierced with tiny windows.
There are also some lovely tree-filled squares, leafy avenue and the main thoroughfare, Passeig de Born. El Born is a magnet for tapas bars, tucked away in the area’s tiny alleys. One of the most famous is Cal Pep, specialising in seafood. A recent addition to El Born’s tapas scene is the bar at the refurbished Santa Caterina fresh food market – order wine by the glass and share platters of cheese and ham croquettes at the long communal tables.
If the thought of ordering tapas without having an in-depth knowledge of Spanish or Catalan is just too scary, drop into one of the Taller de Tapas restaurants – the menu and layout are traveller-friendly and not the least bit intimidating. There are branches in El Born, the Ramblas, Eixample and the Gothic Quarter.

Where to Eat Paella in Barcelona

Paella can definitely be hit or miss in Barcelona: with so many tourists eager to try it, most versions you’ll find at regular restaurants will, in all likelihood, be subpar. But if you head to the right place, such as those mentioned below — or even learn how to make your own paella masterpiece — then you’re in for a real treat.

Paella profile

But first, a little about the beloved rice dish, which most famously originates from the Mediterranean coastal community of Valencia (just south of Barcelona and its region of Catalonia). This is where the famous short-grain rice is grown; a rice that is especially absorbent, and therefore soaks up all of those delicious flavors. Paella can come in all sorts of versions, from meat (called Valencian paella), to seafood, vegetarian and mixed. Sometimes you’ll even see it tinged with a dark color, as it has been flavored by squid ink (this tastes so much better than you could ever imagine!). Then, you will also likely come across another dish similar to paella, called fideua, which is essentially paella, minus the rice, and plus thin, macaroni-like noodles.

Best restaurants for paella

Now that you’ve worked up a proper appetite, head to one (or several!) of Barcelona’s most-acclaimed paella-making restaurants. Set your sights (and appetite) on 7 Portes, a Barcelona icon dating back to 1836. There, you can enjoy live piano music in a traditional setting while scarfing down some of the best paella the city has to offer. Meanwhile, eat your paella al fresco at another favorite, Can Majó, located in Barceloneta, the city’s beachside district. Other paella hotspots abound, too, from nautically inspired Restaurante Barceloneta, to the waterside terrace of El Tunel del Port.

Whip up your own batch

Or get more up close and personal with your paella by learning how to make it yourself! During a Barcelona paella cooking class, you’ll not only have the opportunity to scope out the ingredients at the bustling Boqueria Market along with your personal guide, but afterward you’ll have the chance to concoct your own pan of rice-y goodness, which you will eventually dine on during a multi-course and wine-accompanied meal. Indeed, the best paella in Barcelona doesn’t have to be ordered at a restaurant, but could easily be enjoyed wherever you’re cooking skills are being put into action.

Barcelona Insight

Barcelona, located at the Mediterranean sea in the very north of the Spanish coast, is certainly the most cosmopolitan and economically most active city in this country.

It has always proved its will to be modern, to follow the latest international tendencies or be ahead of them. To the tourist this is evident specially in its architecture, which so well reflects the general approach to life in this always pulsating city.

Of course, Barcelona has an old history, and there are monuments of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods or still before, but most characteristic is what has been built during the last, say, 100 years.

Barcelona has been a center of Modernist architecture and is distinguished specially by the works of genial Antoní Gaudí, who together with his great contemporaries gave new and exciting looks to it, but has remained since then at the top of modernity.

 Where To Eats

Remember that lunch is served from 2pm until 4pm and dinner from 9pm to 11pm. Restaurants in Barcelona are often closed on Sunday nights.

In the Barrio Gotico, Onofre is a creative tapas place at very little price in a nicely decorated bar. We liked the carpacio de bacalao at 3 € 50 (a bit too salty and chef please! forget the ridiculous bretzel) , the grilled vegetables at 3 € ( too bad no garlic), the delicious jabugo.

You can also choose salads, or a jabugo and salami's selection plate at 15 €, and a great variety of cheese. Best thing is that you can come here only to buy jabugo and wine. A precious address only for that.

Pla is a very cosy ambience restaurant, considered one of the must try of the city and a good creative cooking.

What is particular of this place is the inspiration of the menu: a tasty travel along the Mediterranean coast, a mix of many cultures. Oriental, Greek, Italian, Spanish you'll taste of those flavours. Try salads, curries, sushi, and pastas... Fun for the taste buds, nice for the eyes, ok for the music.

People considers it as one of the best places they've ever eaten!

La Rambla

Five separate streets strung end to end, La Rambla (also called Las Ramblas) is a tree-lined pedestrian boulevard packed with buskers, living statues, mimes and itinerant salespeople selling everything from lottery tickets to jewellery. The noisy bird market on the second block of La Rambla is worth a stop, as is the nearby Palau de la Virreina, a grand 18th-century rococo mansion, with arts and entertainment information and a ticket office. Next door is La Rambla's most colourful market, the Mercat de la Boqueria. Just south of the Boqueria the Mosaic de Miró punctuates the pavement, with one tile signed by the artist. The next section of La Rambla boasts the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the famous 19th-century opera house. Below the Plaça Reial, La Rambla becomes decidedly seedy, with strip clubs and peep shows. La Rambla terminates at the lofty Monument a Colom (Monument to Columbus) and the harbour. You can ascend the monument by lift. Just west of the monument, on Avinguda de les Drassanes, stand the Reials Drassanes (Royal Shipyards), which house the fascinating Museu Marítim. It has more seafaring paraphernalia than you'd care to wag a sextant at - boats, models, maps, paintings, ships' figureheads and 16th-century galleys.

Barri Gotic

The Barri Gotic contains a concentration of medieval Gothic buildings only a few blocks northeast of La Rambla, and is the nucleus of old Barcelona. It's a maze of interconnecting dark streets linking with squares, and there are plenty of cafes and bars, as well as the cheapest accommodation in town. Most of the buildings date from the 14th and 15th century, when Barcelona was at the height of its commercial prosperity and before it had been absorbed into Castile. Around the Catedral, one of Spain's greatest Gothic buildings, you can still see part of the ancient walls incorporated into later structures. The quarter is centred around the Plaça de Sant Jaume, a spacious square, the site of a busy market and one of the venues for the weekly dancing of the sardana. Two of the city's most significant buildings are here, the Ajuntament and the Palau de la Generalitat.

Museu Picasso

The Museu Picasso is Barcelona's most visited museum. It's housed in three strikingly beautiful stone mansions on the Carrer de Montcada, which was, in medieval times, an approach to the port. The museum shows numerous works that trace the artist's early years, and is especially strong on his Blue Period with canvases like The Defenceless, ceramics and his early works from the 1890s. The second floor shows works from Barcelona and Paris from 1900-1904, with many of his impressionist-influenced works. The haunting Portrait of Senyora Canals (1905), from his Pink Period is also on display. Among the later works, all executed in Cannes in 1957, are a complex technical series (Las Meninas), which consists mostly of studies on Diego Velazquez's masterpiece of the same name.

La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia is truly awe-inspiring - even if you don't have much time, don't miss it. The life's work of Barcelona's favourite son, Antoni Gaudí, the magnificent spires of the unfinished cathedral imprint themselves boldly against the sky with swelling outlines inspired by the holy mountain Montserrat. They are encrusted with a tangle of sculptures that seem to breathe life into the stone. Gaudí died in 1926 before his masterwork was completed, and since then, controversy has continually dogged the building program. Nevertheless, the southwestern (Passion) facade, with four more towers, is almost done, and the nave, begun in 1978, is progressing. Some say the shell should have been left as a monument to the architect, but today's chief architect, Jordi Bonet, argues that the task is a sacred one, as it's a church intended to atone for sin and appeal to God's mercy on Catalunya.

La Pedrera

Another Gaudí masterpiece, La Pedrera was built between 1905 and 1910 as a combined apartment and office block. Formerly called the Casa Milà, it's better known now as La Pedrera (the quarry) because of its uneven grey stone facade that ripples around a street corner - it creates a wave effect that's further emphasized by elaborate wrought-iron balconies. Visitors can tour the building and go up to the roof, where giant multicoloured chimney pots jut up like medieval knights. On summer weekend nights, the roof is eerily lit and open for spectacular views of Barcelona. One floor below the roof is a modest museum dedicated to Gaudí's work.

Montjuic

Montjuic, the hill overlooking the city centre from the southwest, is home to some fine art galleries, leisure attractions, soothing parks and the main group of 1992 Olympic sites. Approach the area from Plaça d'Espanya and on the north side you'll see Plaça de Braus Les Arenes, a former bullring where the Beatles played in 1966. Behind it lies Parc Joan Miró, where stands Mir?'s highly phallic sculpture Dona i Ocell (Woman and Bird). Nearby, the Palau Nacional houses the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, which has an impressive collection of Romanesque art. Stretching up a series of terraces below the Palau Nacional are fountains, including the biggest, La Font Màgica, which comes alive with a free lights and music show on summer evenings. In the northwest of Montjuic is the 'Spanish Village', Poble Espanyol. At first glance it's a tacky tourist trap, but it also proves to be an intriguing scrapbook of Spanish architecture, with very convincing copies of buildings from all of Spain's regions. The Anella Olímpica (Olympic Ring) is the group of sports installations where the main events of the 1992 games were held. Down the hill, visit masterpieces of another kind in the Fundacio Joan Miro, Barcelona's gallery for the greatest Catalan artist of the 20th century. This is the largest single collection of the his work.

Tips Untuk Getting Around London ~ Transportation

Sumber: Forum Cari ya.

Underground tube - boleh beli oyster card ( my preference) atau london pass, oyster card bagus kalau bawa kids takde caj, pastu kalau kita dah spent sampai certain u=amount dalam satu hari, dapat free dah lepas tu...pendek kata kalau ada oyster card dan hafal some of the station, dah cukup nak pusing2 London.  Other option dari oyster card, pakai travelcard, (esp kalau short term visitor), tapi kids kena charge, no deposit compare to oyster cards..kalau oyster cards kena deposit 10gbp kalau tak silap...boleh dpt balik kalau kita pulangkan kad tu, kad tu boleh dibeli kat stesen atau mana2 newstand

Public red busses mcm bus biasa, ade setengah boleh pakai oyster card gak...info bas mana route mana, boleh dapat lengkap kat every bus stop, bus dia sangat efisien

Hop on Off bus - boleh beli pass untuk sehari, kalau time winter sebab masa pendek , dia bagi 2hari untuk satu pass.. personally i rasa yang ni ok tapi slalu stuck dlm jam, buang masa
Open top red london bus tour - yg ni boleh bundled dgn tour luar london mcm windsor stonehenge semua

nak jalan jalan naik tube senang je, sila hafal map ni

Kenapa Buat Blog Panduan Travel Ku

The Solo Traveler
Sekarang jam dah 2:35am (04/05/2014) Sunday Morning. Masih jaga kerana awal tidur...oppps terlebih awal tidur sesampai dari kampung. Saya diserang migraine yang melampau dan badan seram sejuk demam. Tulang belulangpun macam nak rapuh. Kenapa? cuaca kat kampung tersangatlah panasnya. Saya memang tak tahan panas. Dari dulu sampai sekarang. Ok..end of intro yang tak kena mengena!

On why I created this blog?

Nah senang saja. Kalau korang nak tumpang sekakipun tak apa juga... kan sharing is caring. Cuma sorry lah yerrr, ianya past berterabur kerana segala nota ini unplanned punya. Anything interesting (according to me) akan ditulis secara scattered.

Ok. See you on my next blog entry. All about London notes yang I cedok dari pelbagai sumber. Dan diolah menjadi hasil kerja sendiri. Bijakkan? Wahahahaha.....

Much love from the unknown.
